I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list π Who wouldn’t want that? Spain is one of those places I would be glad to come back again and again, always loving everything, the weather, the people, the street performers, the laid back lifestyle, the language, the music, the FOOD! Everyone smiles all the time. It is my happy place. Plus, they have so many islands, you don’t only have the mainland.
This time is “all the way up” to Barcelona. I always get asked the question: “How many days are enough to visit this or that place?”. People are always busy with work and life, so they prefer taking in as much as possible in a weekend or max a week. I can say 5 to 7 days are relatively enough for European places.
Β
How to spend 5 days in Barcelona? After visiting touristic places, all I would do now if I come back again is the beach, La Barceloneta, and bars and restaurants. But as first timers, you must immerse yourself in their culture.
Β
DAY 1
You can start with Barrio Gotico (Gothic Quarter):
Barcelona History Museum: explains perfectly the history and importance of Barcelona and has over 4,000 square meters of Roman ruins located beneath the museum that you can walk through. Itβs spectacular!
Picasso Museum: I love Picassoβs work among everyone else. With over 3,000 pieces of art, this museum has a lot to see.
The Gothic Cathedral: Located in the heart of Gothic Quarter, this Gothic cathedral was built on top of an 11th-century church. You can take an elevator up to the roof to enjoy amazing views of the surrounding historic area.
Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art: It has hundreds of exhibits, especially from Spanish artists. If you love modern art, it is worth it.
Parc de la Ciutadella: I love the art and fountain here. Gaudi designed the famous Cascada Fountain when he was an architecture student. On a warm day, you can just sit and stare at the fountain. Thereβs also a zoo in the park and some short walking paths, where you can have a picnic.
Β
DAY 2
You can enjoy the food culture of the city. You can go around the Barrio Gothico and the food markets there that highlight the food history and delicacies of the region. Beaches: (my love!!!) You can start with Barcelona Aquarium located in Port Vell, a harbor in Barcelona. The 35 aquariums at the facility are home to 11,000 animals representing 450 species. Amazing experience!
Even though I love the sun and the beach, twice I have been to Barcelona it was not in the summer, it was a bit cloudy, but still there were people taking advantage of the sun, and even locals entering the sea (cold sea!). Anyway, on the second day you can just go and relax there after all the walking of the first day.
Β
DAY 3
GAUDI
Barcelona’s most famous architect. You can find his work spread throughout the city, but in the Eixample area, you can visit these four big sites, La Sagrada Familia, Park GΓΌell, Casa Mila, Casa Batllo. PlaΓ§a dβEspanya at night. At the end is the Magic Fountain of MontjuΓ―c, which puts on a spectacular light-and-water show.
Museu Nacional dβArt de Catalunya: It is a whole museum dedicated to art of the region. It is also on a hill and you can take great pictures of the city, and selfies with a great light, LOL.
It is your last day, so you can relax and enjoy what you liked most, the beach, the food, the clubs, the stadium. I only visited the empty Camp Nou Stadium and the FC Barcelona Museum, but it was amazing, epic! Next time I should plan watching a match there! Funny thing, at the entrance they ask where are you from, and when you are inside, you hear your national football commentator. Being from a small country, it was really exiting!
You can squeeze this visits in three days, but maybe you won’t be able to relax as much, and the city is calm and slow, so it is worthy to relax and enjoy it at their pace!Β

Barcelona is a great city destination when looking at Europe. Itβs vibrant exciting and lively. One of the cheaper cities compared to other European cities. Well presented and great tips. The visuals are great as well. Keep it up.
